If you regularly participate in diving, then you should be aiming to get the best possible equipment for your exhibitions. The Seiko diver offers a quality diving watch that also doubles as a classy and cool normal watch for everyday use. If you are a watch nut, it will fit in with your collection, with the important aspect of being able to handle pressures down under the weather. Seiko have created a lot of great watches over the years, but the SKX173 is one of the best, for sure.
It’s luminous at night, which is always a cool feature isn’t it? And it also makes use of the new Limibrite technology created exclusively by Seiko, and is created by a luminous organic material. With no radioactivity, it is perfectly safe to wear and works in any environment where you need a light extra light. To balance, however, the black dial offers easy use and reading when in bright lights, making it versatile in either darkness or light. It makes easy telling of the time when you are busy seeing what lies under the sea.
Both hands on the clock itself are very easy to differentiate, meaning you can spend more time trying to enjoy your diving than trying to work out what the clock says! The unidirectional bezel works perfectly, and ensures that accidental turns are avoided or at least minimised. However, one of the main benefits of the SKX173 is that it actually draws the charge from the UV lights, as it charges the luminous material. This means it will be lit up well at night, with no need for charge.
The rubber strap is comfortable, and it helps conform to your wrist after a regular period of use. The crown guard is also excellent, it looks brilliant and also wonderfully functional, and it’s probably the best of any Seiko watch. It never gets caught on anything, and to be honest even if you don’t go diving this makes a brilliantly functional, cost-effective watch.
The winding is extremely efficient, too, it tends to work just fine, keeping pretty much perfect time with real-life. Just keep it fully wound, it should work fine. Seiko are known for creating durable and quality watches, but this really does take it to the limit – this is probably the strongest watch I’ve used, it has taken quite a lot of stress due to my own silliness, and it is yet to show any problems whatsoever. At 21,600 BPH – six ticks per second – ensures that the watch lasts for a long, long time.
If you are a diver, and you are looking for something special which offers value, then you should look no further. It offers everything you would need from a watch, durability, functionality, looks and a long lifespan.
