The History of Moi Lum Restaurant
Founded in the 1920s by Mr. Khong Yu Lim, this restaurant quickly became famous for selling crispy fried chicken and golden coin beancurd which are still on the menu today. The restaurant was an immediate hit and the owner quickly expanded in the 1930s by providing catering services to businesses and the elite in the area.
By the 1960s, the restaurant participated in the first Singapore Food Festival. But the restaurant was closed from 1972 to 1993 because of a government takeover of that section of Singapore. Upon re-opening at a coffee shop on Henderson Road, the restaurant returned to its roots and once again began growing.
In 2004, the restaurant returned to Tanjong Pagar just a few paces from its original setting. However, by 2010, the restaurant moved once again to 38 Maxwell Road, Airview Bld, #01-01 and now seats 160 people. The dedication of the staff and loyalty of the customers has allowed this restaurant to rise in prominence again to become one the best in Singapore.
